This book describes a hitchhiking trip from Britain to New Zealand undertaken in 1963 by two 18 year old lads. Their modest budget of £200 saw them through to Singapore after several months of hard travel with just 25 pence to spare. Their travels took them through parts of Asia that had remained unchanged since biblical times and their many adventures along the way are described in detail in this book. After being attacked by a knife wielding drunk in Bulgaria the authorities dumped Drew at the heavily fortified Cold War border with northern Greece. A lift across the Syrian Desert from Damascus to Baghdad was in the luggage rack of a Nairn Transport bus which navigated the route by compass across the sands on desert trails. In coup controlled Iraq they accidentally wandered into the courtyard of a mosque and were held by truncheon swinging police before being escorted back to Baghdad. Travel across Iran was on the chassis of a truck behind the cab whilst a side trip into Indian held Kashmir was on an army convoy as fighting had only recently ended there. In Singapore they stayed in a Sikh temple, worked on a Chinese junk and eventually got a passage to Australia where they worked making sheep lick blocks until hitchhiking across the then unsealed earthen road over the Nullabor to Eastern Australia and eventually on to reach New Zealand.
